Subject: Why Santa Needs Acupuncture and Massage.

Text Message:
Why Santa needs acupuncture and massage. So now begins the season of shopping and gift giving. The season of eating and drinking to excess. The season when diets, exercise regimens go by the way side. In a couple of months you are going to wake up and find yourself feeling that you may have abused yourself – a little.Sliding down all those chimneys and falling on your posterior, eating all those cookies and drinking all that milk is enough to make anyone feel a little beat up.

Wouldn’t it be great to have acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine and massage on your side. These modalities can prepare the body for the excesses of the holiday season and help one recover once it passes.

These ideas could make for a great article in the run-up to the holidays. If you are interested in writing on this topic let me know, I would be glad to be of help.

Massage Therapist Reacts to Gov. O’Malley’s Proposal to Tax Health Care Modality

Governor Martin O’Malley Proposes to Impose Sales Tax on Massage Therapy

Silver Spring, Maryland – If Governor Martin O’Malley gets his way Maryland will begin to apply sales tax to health care modalities. One of the Governor’s proposals to close Maryland’s budget gap is to impose the collection of sales tax for the first time on a health care modality, namely Massage Therapy.

Simeon Pollock, a Silver Spring massage therapist, says “The Governor is about to start a descent on the slippery slope of taxing health care. If the Governor gets his way it will forever change the landscape of health care, make the playing field unfair to massage therapists and their patients/clients.”

In his letter to the Governor and state legislators, Simeon Pollock in part wrote:

“This would forever change the rules of the game as it were, on what sales
tax could be collected for. Your proposal, would for the first time in
Maryland's history apply sales tax to a health care modality.

This would unfairly penalize massage therapists & their patients/clients.
It would open the opportunity for physical therapists to practice massage
without such a sales tax giving them an unfair advantage and thereby
discriminating against massage therapists. It would effectively raise the
cost of massage because it is generally not covered by health insurance.

I do not understand how you can justify the taxation of a health care
modality. I can under stand the need to fund the States's budget, but not
at the expense of my health care and of those I serve.

I look forward to hearing from you on this issue.”

Silver Spring Acupuncturist Reacts to Study That Shows Acupuncture is Effective.

Thousand Year Old Treatment Proven Again

SILVER SPRING, Maryland—If three thousand years of proof is not enough perhaps a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine is.

A new study was recently published in the Archives of Internal Medicine citing a study conducted in Germany. The study showed that acupuncture even sham acupuncture is effective in reducing low back pain.

The link to the study is here.

“Something that is that old and that has treated billions of people, is either effective or the greatest sham going,” says Simeon Pollock, a local acupuncturist who practices in Silver Spring, MD.

Pollock has been treating patients with low back pain successfully for close to five years now. “I love to combine my knowledge of acupuncture and massage for a great healing experience,” says Pollock.

Silver Spring Acupuncturist Trains in Emergency Response

Local Practitioner Preparing to Team up With “Acupuncturists Without Borders”

SILVER SPRING, Maryland—When a disaster and crisis hit, lots of people want to lend a hand. Local Silver Spring acupuncturist Simeon Pollock is no different.

Pollock is headed to a three-day training sponsored by “Acupuncturists Without Borders,” a nationwide group that trains acupuncturists in how to respond in a crisis.

“After 9/11, after Hurricane Katrina, after the Virginia Tech shootings, I finally just realized that I could help by doing what I do best: acupuncture,” Pollock says. “After all, this is a 2,000 year old technique that teaches us how to calm ourselves and put our minds and bodies in balance and when we need that most is when we’ve been stressed by incredibly difficult circumstances.”

The training, which shall take place in Columbia at the Sheraton Columbia, from July 13 to 15, includes instruction in the following areas:

*How to set up a mobile clinic
* How to create teams that flourish together
* How to work in a disaster situation
* Comprehensive acute traumatic stress management
* How to set up a community acupuncture event in your local area
* Cultural competency
* Ethical and safety issues

Pollock said he is greatly looking forward to learning how his expertise can be applied to help people in a time of crisis.

“This is about using the skills I’ve learned over years of practice, education and training,” Pollock said. “I just know I can help. After all, in a crisis, why would anyone want to sit on the sideline and do nothing to offer assistance? This is the best way I know how to help.”
